DIY Projects Which You Can Start Once You’ve Retired

It took me a little while to adjust to retirement, I was never particularly good at keeping myself busy and instead always craved work. Once I finished working, I knew that I would quickly have to find something else to fill my time, I began a few business interests and also decided that I would get started on some DIY projects that I had never found time to do. DIY is a great way to fill your time and if you are looking to get involved, here are some great projects which you could get started with.

Kit Car

I was a mechanic during my career and so I couldn’t wait to get started on my very own kit car once I had finished work and it has consumed much of time ever since. The beauty of a kit car is that you start from scratch and design your very own car, you can add the interior that you want, the engine and parts that you want and even choose just the right paint job for your vehicle. Even if you don’t have experience with cars, this is a great way to learn more about them.

Furniture

There are so many bits and pieces that we needed around the house and I decided that instead of spending money in stores, that I would make the things myself. I started with a course on woodwork before taking on my very first project, a simple chest of drawers which was not without its problems. After putting in some work in the shed however, I can now comfortably put together pieces of furniture for the home and there isn’t a room in the house which isn’t sporting one of my pieces. If you want to get handy, start looking around the home to see what it is missing and then get started.

Garden

Our garden had been a pretty boring place for some time and when I first started out with my DIY ideas, I decided to invest some time sprucing up our garden. The first thing I did was to put a pond in, quite a challenge and one that saw me almost bite off more than I could chew. Following the eventual success of the pond, I decided to make some furniture and some decorations using pallets before finally adding some decking. The garden is a great place to start when it comes to a DIY project because if things don’t quite go to plan, not everyone will see them!

Toys For The Grandkids

After starting on my kit car, I realized that I really didn’t have time to be starting any other project, it has really consumed me. With that being said, it is nice to take a break from the car and pick up a small project every once in a while, for that reason, I like to make toys for the grandkids. My grandchildren are pretty young so they aren’t too worried about perfection when it comes to their toys which means much less pressure on my shoulders!
